This is a story of a shy and quiet optometrist bride, a princess in her house, falling in love with a GQ renaissance hero who swept her off her feet, traversing geographical boundaries. Sheekha and Abbas were the perfect match for each other and their families couldn’t be more happier when the bride-to-be blushed a yes to Abbas’ eagerly awaited answer. Their stunning pre-wedding shoot amazed anyone who viewed it – leaving their wedding to be highly anticipated.
Rhyming couplets of poems filled the air with romance on the ghazal night, bringing about a Sufi touch to the celebrations. The bride looked royal in her elegant backless white and gold Manish Malhotra gown paired with long pearl earrings and a jhoomar (headpiece).
The Masti-Filled Sangeet
The sangeet had everyone on the dance floor shaking a leg to the rhythm. In the photographer Mili Ghosh’s words, the sangeet was “fueled with dhamal, masti and a ton of laughter”. Dressed in a beautifully embroidered pistachio and pink lehenga, with her hair adorned in beautiful jasmine flowers, Sheekha made a big entrance at the event. Abbas joined his bride-to-be for a fun dance in a handsome pink sherwani.
The Wedding Location and Decor
Union Station in Chicago was transformed into a resplendent wedding venue, decorated beautifully in shades of dark purple, with crystal chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings. The decadent 5-tier cake also followed the colour theme with gold touches.
The bride stunned guests as she arrived in a flowing maroon velvet Sabyasachi lehenga with intricate gold detailing, complemented by Abbas in a rich black velvet textured sherwani.
The Royal Wedding
Sheekha and Abbas tied the knot in a unique and fun wedding fit for royals at the majestic Union Station Chicago, surrounded by family and friends.
The Drama Filled Reception
The photographer described it as a ‘sipping situation’- a short while before the reception was to begin, it was noticed that the venue had stores of only the famous red canned beverage while the father of the groom was the vice-chairman of the equally famous competing blue can company. This sticky situation was quietly handled and soon the couple and the guests arrived oblivious to an offering of exclusive blue canned beverages.
The all-white colour theme of the reception gave an elegant touch to the reception. Sheekha wore a gorgeous embroidered white gown for this final event.
Warm and Touching Moments
While there was bits of fun and drama during the night, there were plenty of intimate heart touching moments too. Be it the toast from the groom’s mother, brother and sister-in-law describing the beautiful bride’s loyal and loving nature that had made her seamlessly become part of their family, or right down to the moment when Abbas’ charming little nephew took the mic to profess ‘ I love you, Sheekha Mami’ that had every guest smiling in their seats. This was a royal wedding that was filled with laughter, drama, blue cans, dance and plenty of warm moments, which were captured beautifully by photographer Mili Ghosh.
