I walked into the room that would shortly be showcasing the bridal collection launch of London based designer Rita Colson and immediately felt I had arrived as a guest to a fairy-tale wedding. I soon realised each attention to detail reflected Colson’s designs; creativity, elegance, traditional yet modern, vintage and beautiful white floral’s.
Presented by Nova Reid, Nu Bride, and held on 24th March 2017 at RSA House in London, the guests were welcomed with singing by MA R I AM, along with drinks and canapés.
We took to our seats as Nova gave an introduction and presented a short film on Rita Colson and her designs.
Opera singer Abigail Broughton, wearing a stylish red dress with plunging neckline from the forthcoming Rita Colson evening wear collection, entertained us with her singing. This was accompanied by a captivating dance act by dancer Jermaine Joseph.
The lighting dimmed whilst we sat with the same excited anticipation before the bride enters her wedding ceremony, our eyes fixed to the spotlight on the catwalk. The ‘brides’ walked down the aisle gracefully to music showcasing the designs to perfection.
Elizabeth- A structured embroidered vintage corset with a long crepe skirt
Ava- A pleated high collar styled bolero dress in duchess satin and silk crepe.
Audrey- A one button double breast crepe jacket suit and trousers
Eden- Lace applique long skirt with crepe jacket
Grace- A regal off the shoulder ruffle dress in duchess satin.
The trends seen in the Rita Colson bridal launch collection saw the coming together of tradition with a modern and creative twist. Each dress represented this but was individually unique from the other.
Use of silk, lace and crepe fabrics with intricate beading giving a vintage look were at the forefront of these designs.
Speaking to Rita Colson her inspiration has come from her “love of bold silhouettes, vintage and playful textures.” She had envisaged to “create a personal statement to a traditional bridal dress.”
