There is hardly anyone out there these days that doesn’t use Snapchat. For those of you unaware of this app that is taking over our lives, here is a little preview.
Snapchat the app that at first allowed you to share your daily activities to your friend and family as you were doing them, and disappeared within 24 hours. As it progressed, they added the Live Stories feature that allows us to view what people do all around the world. It also included Live Stories on important days, and how people from different places celebrated it. It is quite educational actually. This is when everyone started noticing it. It quickly became one of the most downloaded apps, surpassing all others. Now, it has become our very own vlogging camera, where we document almost every moment of our day. This has resulted in people trying their personal best to make their day seem the most entertaining.
The latest trend to hit Snapchat however, and quite frankly the most envy inducing, is the documenting your D-day. Add the Geofilters that you can design to appear at the venue for a certain diameter, you’ll have everyone wishing they were there.
Let me explain how this works.
The brand is rolling out a new “on-demand” Geofilter that allows people and businesses to pay for custom filters, which will temporarily appear within the app. Though Snapchat has offered sponsored geofilters for some time, on-demand filters will cover much smaller geographic areas and will cost significantly less, with prices ranging from $5 to several thousand dollars. (You can use the company’s new online tool to experiment with prices and locations.)
Geofilters are the in-app illustrations — typically tied to specific locations — that you can overlay onto your snaps. While a large number of Snapchat’s Geofilters have always been user-generated, the company’s guidelines prevented businesses from creating filters until now. The new filters also allow people to create specialised filters for private events like birthday parties or weddings or any other big dates, like baby showers ( hey if Chrissy Teigan did it..), which wouldn’t have worked within the previous guidelines.
The new on-demand filters let people pay for temporary placement within the app. Once you’ve designed your filter (Snapchat offers some templates), you’ll map out the specific area you want the filter to appear in, and for how long. You can have the filters on, from the day you get engaged, leading up to the day you get married. Cute, no?
Buyers have some flexibility in arranging the details, though the on-demand filters aren’t nearly as far-reaching as the app’s sponsored ones, which can sometimes cover the entire country. The on-demand Geofilters can cover anywhere from 20,000 square feet (part of a city block) to 5,000,000 square feet (several city blocks) and can last for an hour or a month. The price will depend on both of those factors.
This not only gives your guests the ultimate brag rights, but also, imagine the amount of tiny, unmissed yet significant memories it will hold and capture. This will surely be a day to remember for all of them.
The on-demand filters are available now to users in the U.S, UK and Canada, and the company says it will roll the feature out to more locations soon. Who knows? In the end, you can collect all the pictures and videos from your guest and make a wedding montage with all of them. Seems like the coolest thing ever, right?
