The beautiful Hindu wedding of Roma and Hiram took place in a gorgeous museum in Sarasota, Florida on a warm June day. With a gold and white colour theme and over 10,000 feet of handmade jasmine flower strings, the museum was elegantly decorated giving a warm and unique feeling to the wedding festivities.
In the Bride’s Words: How They Met
I was throwing a boat party for labor day weekend with a girlfriend of mine. We told our friends to invite whoever they wanted and I ended up meeting Hiram that day. I’m pretty sure since that day we have been inseparable (whether he prefers it or not)!
We went to the world cup in 2014 to Brazil and he proposed to me while walking down the pier.
I always imagined getting married in the backyard of my house, so that is the feel I wanted for my wedding. Therefore, I picked the Powel Crosley Mansion. I still remember walking into the Mansion the morning of my pithi and feeling like I was in India.
I could hear the live sitar playing, white flowers hanging from the ceiling, the smell of incense filling the room while the backyard was being prepped for the wedding ceremony. It was beyond perfect.
The Wedding Decor
Coming from a creative background, I wanted to have a part in every detail of my wedding. I actually spent 2 months in India with my Mom planning out each detail of the decor. We commissioned to have 10,000 feet of handmade jasmine flower strings made.
What The Bride Wore
Roma wore a beautiful pearl embroidered white Sabyasachi lehenga paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, and stunning gold and pearl jewellery. Her beautiful Borsheims ring was purchased directly from Warren Buffet at his annual shareholders meeting.
My husband and I paired up to design and build the Havan Kund used for the holy flame during the ceremony, as well as the table setting boards for the reception. An entire shipping crate full of decor was shipped from India to Florida.
I designed the furniture used at the pithi, wedding and sangeet, and got it custom made. There were three sets of cushion covers made, one for each event. I searched endlessly to find about 40-50 mosaic lamps, beautiful chests and rugs used during the sangeet.
The Wedding Reception
We honestly loved every minute of the entire four-day extravaganza. We think the most breathtaking and surreal event was the reception at the Ringling Museum. It really felt like we were in another country surrounded by all of the people we love.
Words of Advice
The best advice I would give is to GET A WEDDING PLANNER! Honestly, for Hiram and I the most important thing about this wedding aside from the decor, venue, clothes etc… was our guests. We wanted this to be a time they could relax and enjoy themselves rather than running around helping us out etc.., and that was only possible because of our planner and her ability to execute every single event flawlessly.
