A stunning real wedding in the city of Bikaner, Rajasthan made for the perfect destination wedding for bride and groom, Shweta and Arjun. An intimate wedding in an offbeat location is what they wanted, and the Laxmi Niwas Hotel Palace fulfilled this vision. This beautiful location created a dreamy backdrop for the wedding functions, and the wedding decor added to the magnificent opulence.
How they met
Arjun is a Jat from Meerut, and Shweta is a Maharashtrian. They met through a common friend at a social gathering after which they became good friends. It was during an occasion that Arjun mentioned he really wanted, and was looking for, a vintage gramophone for his apartment, which Shweta found and gifted him. This marked the beginning of their love story.
Arjun and Shweta went on vacation to Paris and he popped the question on top of the Eiffel Tower — and she said yes!
The mehendi function was held in the palace’s courtyard, and the entire ceiling was draped with golden yellow chiffon, enhanced by hundreds of marigold flowers floating on the draped chiffon ceiling above guests. There were local folk artists such as kachi ghodi, ghoomer dancers, and a matki dancer who performed to the beats of the dholak which made the entire environment traditional and lively. The courtyard had a marble fountain in the center with cascading water adding a beautiful background sound that echoed throughout.
The sangeet was held at Lal Chowk where Shweta performed on a Haryanvi number as a surprise for Arjun, and the look in his eyes was the best moment of the wedding. The stage was set against the unique red sandstone lattice work of the palace. Crystals, gold jaali lanterns, and floral chandeliers were hung over the guests, and velvet was adorned on diwans and bolsters. The wedding mandap was set against the backdrop of the palace façade with crimson red silks and white chiffon drapery, the entire venue was decorated with fresh rajnigandhas, jasmine, and red roses; so much so the air was filled with the sweet smell of Indian flowers and made the entire venue look extremely elegant. The wedding was followed by a royal sit down dinner right in front of the grand palace façade. The long tables were decorated with candelabras, a thousand candles, and red roses for 120 guests to dine on.
It was a wedding fit for royalty! Arjun & Shweta both wanted a regal wedding and had a number of palaces in mind. They wanted an intimate wedding in an offbeat location, which is how they came to choose Laxmi Niwas Palace in the city of Bikaner.
With a guest list of 200 of their closest friends and family, it was the perfect destination wedding where each guest was personally catered to by The Wedding Designers team. Guests came down from Delhi NCR, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Pune & Kolkata to be a part of the celebrations and to bless the happy couple.
Logistics was a big issue as there was no airport in Bikaner. Guests had to catch a flight to Jodhpur or Jaipur, the closest locations with an airport. They then had to travel by road for another six hours to get to Bikaner.
In the Groom’s words
After rounds and rounds of discussions with family and friends, we finally decided the date on which we’d be married. But little did we know that this was just the beginning. We were very sure about the kind of wedding we wanted and didn’t think getting a wedding planner would be much of a task. We couldn’t have been more wrong. We must have met more than ten planners but worst of all, we didn’t like any single one of them. Rishi and Yamini from The Wedding Designers were a godsend. It literally took us ten minutes to decide that they would be the ones who would make our wedding come alive. And in hindsight, apart from the decision to get married, it was probably the best decision we ever took!
Rishi and Yamini are passionate, extremely creative, uber helpful but most importantly, the two nicest people you can hope to meet. And to have these two plan the most important day of our lives was a privilege. From the many iterations of the wedding concepts, to sourcing the vendors and to even keeping up with our 4AM ideas, Rishi and Yamini aced it all. And during the wedding, when you almost expect some things to fall apart, everything – and we mean everything – went according to plan. We still don’t know how they managed it but what we do know is that we consider ourselves very fortunate that Rishi and Yamini were there to oversee every detail of our wedding because it truly gave us that rare opportunity – as the groom and bride – to just take a back seat and enjoy our wedding.
Choosing Rishi and Yamini to plan your wedding will be the best decision you will ever take because they won’t just plan your wedding, they will sacrifice their sleep, faint in the scorching sun, run pillar to post but among all of it, they will make sure you have the wedding of your dreams.
