It goes without saying that women in general are natural at multi-tasking, and when it comes to the big moment in their life of planning their very own wedding, one can only imagine the Adrenalin rush and burst of positive vibes that occur for someone planning their dream wedding. Often, without realising, they’re slowly sucked into a tornado of activities to squeeze into a normal day, from, invitations, wedding venue inspections, menu planning and shopping for the ‘many’ perfect wedding outfits.
Whilst it may seem perfectly normal to operate in a super-normal state of mind & body, one often reaches a point where this ‘dream’ wedding begins to slip away as the mind becomes clouded with meaningless thoughts, anxiety, fears and eventually burnout fatigue. All this can so often prove the perfect storm for any event planning, but more importantly, by neglecting one’s own physical and mental health needs, your just making the situation ten times worse.
Below we share with you leading tips on how to deal with the stresses of planning a successful wedding, by also ensuring you are looked after…
#1 – Just Breathe
‘Pranayama’ – is an ancient yoga breathing technique that teaches you the art of extending your breath and allows you to maximise inhaling fresh oxygen helping to calm the mind and increase concentration. This technique is effective even during a busy schedule by practicing for just 10 minutes each day in the comfort of your own home.
If you wish to extend your practice, a full yoga routine will allow you to ease your anxiety but relax your tense muscles by forcing your body out of its fixed form.
#2 – ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade’
It can’t be easy keeping a check of your diet in a house full of friends, family and of course mithai leading up to the wedding! Nimbu- Paani (indian lemonade) is a quick thirst quencher we can have litres of on a hot day. Substitute the sugar in the recipe for honey and have a glass to detox and rejuvenate from the spicy, oily and sugary indian food.
#3 – Mindful or Mind-full?
Ideas, deadlines, appointments and constant distractions can crowd our minds with endless thoughts and never ending mental to-do lists. Invest in a wedding planning journal and write it down, even if it’s as simple as changing your lipstick colour for your big day…
This will free up your mind by having less to memorise and you will feel more motivated and confident as you find a time and day to slot each of your tasks in to. There will be more moments in the day for you to be mindful and truly ‘live in the moment’ without feeling overwhelmed.
