Sunday 8th January saw the return of the Aashni + Co Wedding Show at The Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London, the ultimate South Asian bridal event of the year on London!
Spotlighting the latest bridal, occasion wear and couture collections from the top tier of the Indian and Pakistani design spectrum including Anamika Khanna, Anushree Reddy, Elan, Gaurav Gupta, Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani, Monisha Jaising, Rimple and Harpreet Narula, Jade by Monica and Karishma and ASAL by Abu Sandeep.
We share our highlights from the prestigious wedding show.
One of the showstopper masterpieces was the decor that Zita Elze pulls together; this year they opted for an earthy mystical wood theme with the use of fruit orchards. Beautiful right?
Ansuhree Reddy blew us away as usual with her collections fit for a princess! She brought back some of her staple classic pieces with her original floral zest.
Sabyasachi came to the show with the special surprise of his strong shoe and bag collaboration with Christian Louboutin!
Sabyasachi’s Firdaus collection was showcased in the UK for the first time at the Aashni + Co Wedding Show. Firdaus translates as the highest garden in paradise.
A great deal of craftsmanship was put in to the ‘modern day heirloom’ pieces, such as dip-dyed brocades, vegetable-dyed silk floss and many many working hours.
Sabyasachi mentioned “… It feels like coming home. There is absolutely no stress and things are seamlessly planned. A lot of people in London were excited to see my latest debut collection with Christian Louboutin for shoes and handbags. I also showcased my very celebrated ‘Firdaus collection’ that has done well all over the world. I am very happy to bring this to London.”
Tarun Tahiliani’s latest collection had his elaborate signature touches combined with warm and dark tones of green, black and deep creams, all complimented with gold embellishments and embroidery.
Akanksha Gajria is a new favourite; her collection is fun, playful and has a unique persona, no two pieces look alike. We loved the use of pop and pastel colours sparkling with mirror work, frilly nets and tie-dye/marbling design.
We first set eyes on Sonali Gupta’s attire at the first edition of the Aashni + Co Wedding Show and since then we get excited every year to see her collection! The bold colours of red, yellow and blue, and the embroidery and embellishment of her latest designs just left us in awe!
Aashni Anshul Doshi, founder and creative director of Aashni + Co said “It has been a spectacular show, surpassing even last year’s, and I thank our incredible designers. We had a great response from attendees who had the chance to see a bridal outfit to make their special day even more memorable. What’s more, the experience was enhanced further by the creative support of the award-winning floral artist and design consultant Zita Elze – Zita is an integral part of the show and my extension. I think the best part about this event is that it allows people to meet the designers behind their wedding outfits and if they wish to have a bespoke creation. Our show makes that possible and demonstrates that you don’t have to travel to India for the right designer outfit.”
